There is a lot of debate among various people regarding
the overall development and growth among children of working mothers.
Some people feel that the children of working mothers tend to be aggressive,
stubborn, undisciplined, spoilt and insensitive as their parents are unable
to spend adequate time in the care of their children. This leads them
to feel guilty and therefore overcompensate and spoil the child.
While this may be true for some families, studies show that it is not
necessary that a mother needs to be present twenty four hours a day with
her child to ensure he has the right values. What is of fundamental importance
is that she spends quality time with her children to allow a trust and
respect along with a sense of security to develop between her and her
children.
A child generally reflects the personality traits and attributes of its
parent or caregiver. So the way a mother or caregiver relates with the
child influences his or her thinking. Thus the responsibility of the caregiver
to ensure that there is an all-round growth and development of the child
increases.
It is therefore important to remember that children are very impressionable
and learn from their environment. Parents who need to go out to work must
ensure that the individuals they choose to take responsibility of their
children must be well qualified in the task of bringing up children. The
parents must ensure that the caregiver they choose is capable of bringing
up children with good moral values, a sense of responsibility and duty,
discipline and above all good sensitive human beings.
Children of working mothers who have educated, responsible and caring
care providers are no different from children who have stay-at-home mothers.
