: Infant water safety concerns |
 |
Infant water safety is an issue that all childcare provides
and parents need to be aware of. Accidents happen but accidents can also
be prevented with a little bit of precaution and care. As a rule one must
never leave an infant alone for even an instance without adult supervision.
Infant water safety means safety for the infant from all water related
accidents like injuries, falls, burns and drowning. Injuries during baths
are quite common. Since the baby’s move a lot during their baths
parents must make sure that the bath area has skid proofed rugs and mats.
Also there should be no sharp objects around to hurt the baby. Last but
not the least no baby or child should be left unattended for even a moment
during his or her bath. During bath parents can if possible regulate the
temperature in the water heaters to prevent scalding. Another safety measure
to prevent scalding is never to move around the child while drinking or
carrying hot liquids or food.
To avoid drowning and other injuries , open bathrooms and water containers
must be kept locked or out of the infants reach. Steaming appliances,
stoves and other cooking appliances utensils that contain hot food must
be kept out of reach of the child to avoid burns and falls. Parents should
avoid having the infant around them while cooking.
Along with the above precautions in order to be well prepared for any
untoward incidents a first-aid box along with a little basic knowledge
of first aid is a must as a first step towards ensuring infant water safety.
