There are various skills for coping with parenting stress,
which have been passed on from one generation of parents to another, to
handle the entry of a child in a young couples’ life. Parenting
involves not only having a baby and taking care of its needs throughout
its growing years but also a change in the lifestyle and pattern of the
new parents.
When the children are young parents are faced with a variety of new experiences
like that of feeding the baby at night, the baby keeping everyone awake
at night or just the simple and daily needs of the baby. All these needs
and demands put a lot of pressure on the parents. Later as the children
get older the pressures of raising well educated, confident, well disciplined
and sensitive children is on the parents.
At each stage of development the level of stress on parents is different.
In order to meet the challenges of parenting it is important for parents
to be clear, patient and calm while dealing with their children. Along
with this while dealing with their children they must take into consideration
the child’s age and his or her level of development.
While trying to instill the attributes of discipline, good moral behavior,
self confidence and a sense of responsibility, parents must realize that
the children will learn the most if their role models that is their parents
exhibit the same quality and teach them by actions rather than words.
Establishing a good bond with the children and communicating with them
helps the parents to gain the trust and confidence of their children.
Establishing clear rules and forms of conduct, patience, planning, a little
bit of creativity while dealing with problems and a lot of commonsense
are some of the well tried skills for coping with parenting stress.
