 |
Self esteem for women is an important issue for psychologists
and most doctors involved in treating depression in women. Regardless
of economic status, age or race low self-esteem affects many women and
is therefore an area of great concern.
Low self-esteem among women leads to many problems in women. They suffer
from various problems like lack of confidence or hopelessness. The symptoms
of low self-esteem vary for every woman. Some women may feel constant
tiredness, melancholy, sleep problems lack of concentration or just total
aloofness from their surroundings. These symptoms if left un-checked or
untreated can lead to acute depression, suicidal tendencies or various
emotional and physical disorders.
There are a large number of women who suffer from low self-esteem. Signs
and symptoms of low self-esteem are visible from a young age too, though
they may not be so obvious at this early stage, but these symptoms if
they are left untreated they tend to get worse as the children get older.
With increase in age comes an increase in roles, expectations, responsibilities,
stress and also various physical and hormonal changes like menstruation,
pregnancy or menopause. The inability to handle these challenges or any
form of abuse like rape, child, alcohol etc may lead to poor self esteem
among women. There are therefore many factors responsible for low self-esteem
in women.
Studies show that that women who suffer from low self-esteem have a negative
impact on the growth and behavior of their children. Thus it is extremely
important that the treatment of low self esteem for women be given absolute
priority.
